Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, this Federal style house is the headquarters of the Mount Morris Historical Society, which is responsible for the maintenance and restoration of the structure. The Mount Morris Veterans Memorial Park is a testament to what can be done in a small community to honor all veterans, and to educate citizens about the sacrifices of those who have served, are serving, and who will serve their country in the armed forces. The Park is a poignant reminder of the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who served in our military, who were bolstered by the hard working and supportive folks back home. The Mount Morris Dam is the largest dam of its type in the East. The dam was built in 1952, at a cost of $20,000,000. The crest is 790 feet and the spillway is 760 feet above sea level. It was built after nearly 100 years of debate, on how to best save to the lower portion of Rochester and rural areas south of the city from flooding. So far the dam has succeeded it's purpose. Operated by the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts, the county’s official arts agency incorporated in 1967. Located on the historic Livingston County Campus, originally the estate of James R. Murray, Jr. and his son John R. Murray, Jr., New York State acquired the land from then owner Colonel Charles Shepard as the site for a tuberculosis sanatorium. The Arts Center building was a four apartment residence for hospital physicians and their families. It now features the New Deal Gallery, home to Livingston County’s easel painting collection made through FDR’s New Deal programs, Apartment One, a gallery for regional artists’ and special exhibits, the arts council’s offices, and a gift shop. The Genesee Valley Greenway is one of hundreds of greenways being developed across the nation along oId canals, abandoned rail beds, and riverbanks. It passes through scenic woodlands, river and stream valleys, rolling farmlands, steep gorges, and historic villages located in sixteen towns in Monroe, Livingston, Wyoming, Allegany, and Cattaraugus counties in New York State. Web Site The 1941 Historical Aircraft Group Museum is located just North of Mount Morris and is dedicated to the restoration, preservation, display, and flight of aircraft of the World War II and Korean War eras, as well as the recognition of all United States Military personnel for their service and sacrifice.
